Running the Numbers: An
American Self Portrait
Chris Jordan presented his most recent
work at the Municipal Auditorium 8-5-08, here in San Antonio. NPR
hosted the event as hundreds from around the area flocked in to see
this amazing artist.

Our most recent screening was the
surprisingly well done documentary narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio,
THE 11th HOUR. At times very up front with the
dire consequences facing our actions, the film ends on a strong
note of optimism with a slew of new and exciting ideas and
technologies being developed that will surely help us for many
years to go.

Our second screening, after a 4 month haitus
was for Al Gore's
An Inconvenient
Truth.
An incredibly important film for this
generation, it's screening went up against the Mighty Fiesta Weekend.
Those living in San Antonio, know what a beast Fiesta can be for
progressive planning. Competing with the region-wide urge to party is no
easy task. Even
though our RSVP's filled up, only a fraction showed up. A big "Thank
You" to those hearty few. We gave away some energy efficient fluorescent
light bulbs to celebrate the film and to encourage healthy habits.
There is a great deal of research regarding
Global Warming/Climate Change. We did our best to amass a helpful
accompanying list of links with information and tools to help those who
are concerned about the future of our lives here on Earth; to inform and inspire to
make a difference.

Our
first screening, Iraq For Sale, was a huge success
for us. We were full to capacity. The screening was followed by a conference call with
Director Robert Greenwald and Senator John Kerry (Insert Election
'04 jokes, here). We joined
thousands of others across the country in this simulcast.

Now, with a
Democratically controlled Congress, we are
finally able to make some headway into investigating profiteering
allegations and proposing legislation to curtail future ethical
misconduct by some of the most powerful and influential
corporations reaping profits in Iraq.
We should, however,
resist the impulse to become complacent, as there is still an uphill
effort to move forward and bring about positive change for us as
Americans, as well as, global citizens.
